Pickleball was invented in 1965 as a children's backyard game by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell and Barney McCallum. It is a racket/paddle sport comprised of singles or doubles play where opponents hit a plastic hollow ball across the net to win points. Pickleball resembles tennis, but is played on a much smaller court. Some people say its like tennis, badminton and ping pong all in one! Founded in Bainbridge Island, WA, pickleball was adopted as the state sport of Washington in 2022.
